How to keep a house warm in the winter

How to keep a house warm in the winter

As the cold air sets in, keeping our homes nice and toasty goes to the top of our priority lists.

While upgrading your home’s insulation is important for overall value (and keeping your bills to a minimum), most methods are time-consuming and expensive.

Here are some of the top ways to keep the heat in this winter, without breaking the bank.

How to insulate your house

Draft excluder

One of the most affordable ways you can keep the breeze out is by using draft excluders. They sit at the bottom of the door, acting as a barrier to prevent heat from escaping and stop cold breezes from sneaking in.

They’re available in different styles and colours, too, so you’ll be sure to find one that suits your interior preferences.

Thermal curtains or blinds

While getting new windows is a great choice, they can be expensive and take a while to install, which isn’t ideal during the busy Christmas period.

To save money and time, thermal or lined curtains or blinds can block cold air from entering a room through the windows.

To trap heat, remember to close your curtains as soon as it starts going dark, so you can get snuggled up in bed without needing lots of layers.

InsuSlat™ wall panels

Charles & Ivy InsuSlat™ wall panels are the perfect two-in-one for any home, combining style and practicality.

Not only do they enhance the aesthetics of a bedroom, living room, home office, or dressing room, but they also keep the heat in - vital for these frosty mornings and icy evenings.

Engineered with specialist acoustic panelling, they don’t just enhance sound insulation, but also retain heat. Our wall panels will keep your home cosy and your bills down - a win-win for your comfort levels and wallet.

Ideal for homeowners looking for a sleek, sustainable upgrade that enhances the functionality of rooms within the home - whether you’re refreshing an existing room or planning a full renovation, InsuSlat™ wall panels offer a durable and long-lasting solution.

Closed doors

We all have that one family member who never shuts the door when they move between rooms, leaving a trail of cold air behind them.

While it may seem insignificant, keeping the doors closed can make a huge difference when the temperature drops.

When you leave a door open, that icy chill can linger. So, be sure to make a habit of closing the door behind you (especially the front door!) to keep every room at a comfortable temperature and stop cold air circulating.

Internal heaters

What did we do before portable heaters?

If you have a particularly cold room, just plug in, switch on, and go. They’re the perfect addition and don’t cost a lot.

However, as they get hot quite quickly, make sure to never leave them on unattended, and don’t leave them running for too long, as they can cause dry air, overheat, and get noisy.
